Video from our dugout project in Ghana!

We are proud to have supported our local partner Saha Global to expand and rehabilitate a large water dugout close to the village of Sinsina. Works completed in August 2024 and we’re excited to share a video featuring interviews with Sinsina residents – watch below!

The dugout in Sinsina is linked to a small water treatment centre run by two local women (including Naana who is featured in the video) but it has been drying out for several months at a time in recent years due to climate change.

The renovation works took place over several months, resulting in a deeper dugout three times its original size! Vertiva grass & trees have also been planted around the dugout to reduce evaporation during the dry season.

Saha Global have not undertaken such work on dugouts before, so we are delighted to have funded this pilot and are very hopeful it will no longer run dry, resulting in:

  • clean drinking water being supplied to Sinsina residents all year round
  • women & children no longer walking great distances to source water when the dugout is dry
  • children staying in school and women focusing on other important activities to support their families
