The United Nations World Water Day is held each year on March 22nd to celebrate water and to inspire action to tackle the global water crisis. Access to water is a human right but 2.2 billion people still live without safely managed drinking water services, with devastating impacts for their lives and wider society.
WaterHarvest started in 1987 as ‘Wells for India’. Today, almost four decades later our core values remain the same – to help vulnerable, remote communities have year-round access to clean drinking water. We continue to believe that the best way for us to do this is to partner with local organisations who are deeply rooted in their communities.
In Uganda, with the support our local NGO partner – Masaka and District Land Care Chapter – we are in the process of building 107 rainwater roof harvesting tanks in 22 schools providing much needed water to over 10,000 pupils and staff.
Each tank is hand built with 1,800 eco-blocks that are dried without being kiln fired, to reduce environmental impact – watch the short video below to see how!
To date we’ve worked in over 2,000 villages helping 2.3 million people. We rely on donations to deliver our work and have a wonderful community of supporters who want to make a difference. If you would like to join them – find out more here.
